Getting Intimate with Author Katie Santee

May ALL Your Fantasies Come True. This is the motto of Katie Santee, an erotic romance author best known for her hot, steamy short stories in Passions and Pleasures and You Were Mine For A Time.

Katie started writing when she was 18 years old. English piqued her interest in the craft, particularly poetry. This pushed her to join a contest held by the International Society of Poets in 2000. “When I was in high school, I used to sit and write poetry,” she said.

“They liked my work and the next thing I know, I’m in Washington, DC at their convention, participating as a semi-finalist. That was exciting,” Katie said.

Unfortunately, she failed to make the cut. But her poem was published in their album, and she received a medallion and a plaque. She joined the following year and her poetry was published in their book again. They also gave her another plaque and medal.

“It was an experience to remember,” said Katie, which made her believe she could put her thoughts on paper. However, she would only write again in 2005 while she was recovering from a car accident.

“With injuries that took a long time to recover from, I began to write again at the prompting of my friend at my bookstore. She needed a writer for a sex website and asked me to write her a story,” Katie narrated.

Katie published You Were Mine For A Time in October 2014, then Passions and Pleasures on February 14, 2017. Her first short story book contains four stories, while her second work has 12.

A lot of people ask if her stories are life experiences. “You can’t write sexual things that you know nothing about. Does that mean I’ve done everything I write about? Only I know the answer to that,” Katie said.

Most of her story ideas come to her when she’s behind the wheel. The 69-year-old author said, “it’s like someone is talking to me and putting the story into my brain. I know that sounds weird, but it happens all the time.”

For Katie, literary success doesn’t have to be authoring a best-seller. “I think just knowing that you’ve made an impression on someone, or that something you said in your writing has impacted someone in a positive way, you have accomplished something great,” she said.

Getting to Know Katie Santee

Passions and Pleasure

You were Mine for a Time

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

When I sit down to write I tell everyone in the house to leave me alone, don’t talk to me, don’t interrupt me unless I ask for something until I’m finished.  Even the dogs know to stay away.  At the same time, I have to have the television set on.  It’s usually on Fox News, just to have the noise.  I don’t hear it most of the time, but I don’t like silence.

What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?

Strong characters, a good plot and painting a picture that the reader can see themselves in a given situation.  A story has to have a good flow, keeping the reader captivated, not wanting to put it down.

What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing your books?

Having proofreaders, I discovered their enthusiasm kept me wanting to give more.  Their encouragement made me want to give more of my ideas and fantasies to readers worldwide.  I wanted to reach a vast audience through the words I knew they wanted to hear.  What I didn’t know was how far reaching that truly was. Men and women are hungry for sensuality, hot and sexy writing.  I want to  provide that in my work.  I want to give them the fantasy that could come true for them.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written?  If so, who? And what makes them so special?

Thinking back, I think my favorite story I have written was HOT STUFF.  But the most meaningful one was MY HEART’S DESIRE.   In that story, Tricia had been abused and it was hard for her to trust.  So many women out there have been abused, mentally, sexually, and emotionally.   As a child of incest, I could relate and wanted to let people know that it’s okay to go through abuse and learn to trust again.  There are good people out there that don’t want to harm you.  It’s okay to be in a sexual relationship and let yourself be loved and trust him or her not to hurt you.  That was the purpose of that story.

What are your favorite literary journals?

I am an avid reader of Erotica.  I love and would call Lora Leigh my mentor.  I have read every book she has published. Another favorite of mine is Erin McCarthy.  Biographies are also a favorite of mine.  I’ve read several on Princess Diana, Jaqueline Kennedy, and others.

Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?

Currently, I am working on two erotic novels.  I don’t have a time-frame for release yet.  The first is about a rodeo cowboy, the second is about a tornado survivor.  That’s all I’m going to say at this time.  Except, they will be sensual, hot, and sexy…as I usually write.  The stories will be enticing, have some ups and downs, maybe a tearjerker or two…who knows.  I’m also curious as to whether the audience would like another short story book from me.

What do you hope your readers take away from your books?

It is my hope that my readers can sit back, relax, and lose themselves in a fantasy of sexual pleasure.  My stories have a variety of tastes that can reach whatever their desires are. I try to make it so that they can picture themselves in that place and time, feel the emotions and  give in to the sexual satisfaction that can come from their imaginations.  Sexual gratification can come from fantasies built in their mind as they read their favorite story.
